Opera Factory Presents: Bohemian Faces

Opera Boston, Mssng Lnks and Roxbury Center for Arts at Hibernian Hall invite you to attend Bohemian Faces, the culminating event of Vocal Explosion, a two-week intensive vocal music and drama workshop for Boston-area teens, funded in part by the Boston Foundation’s My Summer in the City initiative, which provides safe and engaging afternoon and evening activities for Boston’s young people. Using the music of Puccini’s La Boheme as a springboard, teen performers will work with professional stage artists to create an exciting production that weaves together music from a variety of sources from classical repertoire to the American and South African Civil Rights Movements.

The piece is set in May, 1968 in France, when the country was brought to a standstill through labor strikes involving over two million workers and students, and explores parallels between the strikes’ participants and characters in La Boheme. The workshop and production are being directed by Sam Martinborough, founder of Mssng Lnks, an organization that works with students living in Boston’s urban neighborhoods who are considering careers in classical vocal music.

For more information, including the opportunity to visit Vocal Explosion while in rehearsal, please contact Rachel Adler-Golden at education@operaboston.org.
